The HP LaserJet 1005 printer drivers package is a collection of middleware programs that can help your laser printer interface with Microsoft Windows. By default, Windows treats all individual printers as a sort of generic output device. HP LaserJets don't know how to handle the information Windows sends this way, so the two platforms are normally unable to communicate with one another.
Once you install the 1005 drivers, you'll be prompted to restart your machine. As soon as Windows comes back up, the system will recognize your printer and you'll be able to access it in any print dialog box that would otherwise give you the option of sending a document to a hardware printer.
Power users can visit the LaserJet Control Panel for a little fine tuning over their printer. This extension comes with the driver package, and gives you the freedom to define resolution and paper size for any document printed. Those who'd prefer not to mess with these options can simply print documents and the 1005 driver package will set them heuristically.
Individuals who would prefer to use the included extensions may end up saving a considerable amount of ink, because they're able to set the amount that they'd prefer to use with each document. This could also help them cut back on how long each sheet takes to print.
An overwhelming majority of users will probably just want to install the drivers to start their printer up and never think about the process again.
